We have low cost Alabama child-only health insurance. A parent does NOT have to be on the plan.

The new healthcare bill, in addition to causing increases in health insurance premiums, has also eliminated the possibility of obtaining a health insurance plan for your children without you being on the plan with them.

However, we still have a carrier that will write child only health insurance.

The Plan

They have gotten around the problem of offering Alabama child only health insurance by using something called renewable short term plans.

The initial term for the plan is up to 12 months and it can be renewed with a one day lapse. We even have ways where you do not have to go uncovered for one day.

This is full coverage from an "A" rated carrier. You can use any doctor as there are no required networks. However, for the hospital portion you will save money if you use the included BeechStreet PPO network.

They provide a $50 co-pay (with no deductible) for the first three visits to a physician or urgent care center. Everything else goes against the deductibles which start at $250 and go up to $10,000.

These plans are not very expensive and the deductibles and maximum out of pocket expenses are comparable to or in many cases lower than other major medical plans.

When you fill in the information, your child is the Applicant.

If there is more than one child, make the oldest child the applicant and the other children the dependents.

Once you get your quote, you will be able to adjust the deductibles which will automatically adjust the rate on the screen. You will see an Apply button or link.
